Zikr Dance Ensemble

The Zikr Dance Ensemble offers a spectrum of works that pay homage to a wide variety of transcendent dance rituals from many different ancient world cultures throughout history. Along with original and contemporary dance/theatre realizations based upon metaphysical concepts that employ original music, breathtaking costumes and stunning slide and graphic digital projections and special effects, Zikr seeks to enhance the appreciation for the unity of the human spirit and provide a unique multi-media artistic experience of the many ways that diverse spiritual and cultural traditions invoke the divine and express creativity, profound ritual and wonder through dance.

Founded in 2009 by Colorado contemporary ballet icon David Taylor, Zikr is completely unique among professional dance companies in the USA. Today, Zikr has a prominent presence both regionally and nationally, producing full-scale performance seasons at multiple venues, both in the metro area and throughout the region, supplemented with outreach performances, master classes and free in-studio and school performances. The company’s international roster includes some of the finest ballet-trained and contemporary artists in the world, and throughout its history Zikr has presented performances to unanimous standing ovations and critical acclaim throughout the United States.

Now entering its fifteenth season, Zikr now company annually presents both a Spring and Fall Season in the metro area, featuring a major world premiere, along with numerous outreach activities. In addition, the company tours regularly to smaller, more rural communities throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. The Zikr Dance Ensemble’s “Rural Colorado Community Tour” program has been a highly successful and a unique complement to the company’s Denver profile, bringing the highest quality in professional contemporary dance to thousands of new audiences with limited access to the arts.
