jk-co is a Denver based modern dance company committed to creating performances that are inviting and inclusive for all.
Our mission to make everyone feel like they can be a part of art. jk-co is devoted to finding the humanity and virtuosity of dance. We strive to make concert dance accessible to diverse audiences and cultivate an inclusive environment. By rooting our choreographic process in “what connects us,” we open the dialogue for universal commonalties and shared experiences to guide our movement narratives. jk-co artists come from all different geographical, socio-economic, and technical backgrounds. Therefore, we have a depth of perspective and range in skills that influence, challenge, and strengthen jk-co’s collective artistic voice.
After extensive professional performance careers, the jk-co team, Kimberly Chmielewski, Jenny Gram, and Joshua Dwyre, assembled to invest in the Colorado dance community and share our new voices with a scene we deeply love.
jk-co dance company saw a need for investment in community events. By participating in art programs that active our neighbors of all ages, dance empowers pride in community and bodily exploration. These activations also lead toward building a stronger infrastructure for the Colorado gig performers. When there is a need for programs and performances, it carves out space for contract workers to be working in this field and performing. Through multiple, free-outdoor community events, main-stage and ticketed productions, classes and workshops, we choreography dance performances that engage our audiences. We will continue to carve space in dance for artistry, equity, and community.
