Led by artistic director Jarrett Rashad, Jarrett Rashad Dance Theater will continue their exploration with the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and Presenting Denver in collaboration with their exhibit The Dirty South and the Presenting Denver walking festival Dance in the Dirty South. Partnering with Continuum Partners LLC, who create human habitats of extraordinary character and enduring value throughout the western United States, JRDT will provide an immersive movement experience in response to Valerie Cassel Oliver’s curated exhibition The Dirty South: Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse.

The exhibition and performance explores the aesthetic legacies and traditions of Black Culture in the African American South as seen through the lens of contemporary Black expression; highlighting the importance of the American South and Black culture as critical to our understanding of America’s past, present, and future. The performance takes place at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and their newly renovated Holiday Theater, located at 2644 W 32nd Ave in this historic 400-seat theater.

our mission

JRDT offers a pathway for young performing artists to turn their passion into a career through quality performing arts-based educational programs for schools and communities. We advance the art of storytelling and promote holistic fitness through the creation of new, innovative experiences to connect and grow communities. From the park district to the international stage, we enrich lives through the performing arts.

JRDT was created as a mentorship program to provide training, guidance, and opportunities to young minority artists in at-risk communities with a passion for pursuing a career in the performing arts. This organization has been the lifelong pursuit of Jarrett Rashad as a child of the at-risk community of Austin on Chicago’s west side. He knows 1st hand the struggles of a young artist and is uniquely certified to bring world-class education to communities that often do not provide a safe place for creative endeavors. Jarrett Rashad Dance Theater is committed to sharing the immense transformative power of the performing arts.

I hired Jarrett and his team for our corporate event at a historic theater. We knew we would have a lot of business-oriented presentation segments and wanted to make sure we had entertainment and engagement that would leave attendees energized and inspired. Jarrett and his team delivered and then some. They were extremely professional and executed spectacularly with little direction from us, incorporating audience engagement and performance seamlessly throughout the day. We had multiple attendees comment on how moved they were and how much fun they had—and it’s not easy to get a bunch of shy commercial real estate folks out of their shells! I highly recommend working with JRDT for your next event.”
