THE 5 ELEMENTS OF HIP-HOP

104.7 THE DROP is proud to present THE 5 ELEMENTS OF HIP-HOP: Behind the Scenes at Buell Media Center. Through this immersive event, attendees will explore the following pillars of hip-hop culture:
- Lyricism (also called MCing or emceeing)
- DJing (and turntablism)
- B-boying/b-girling/breakdancing (movement/dance)
- Graffiti
- Historical Knowledge of the movement
Hip-Hop’s Five Pillars were born out of the collective spirit of excitement and innovation that describes pivotal moments in Hip-Hop’s history. It was clear that a new groove had emerged from the Bronx and would echo out from each borough of New York City…and then take over the world. It was birthed in Black and Latino urban communities in New York, where street cultures were left isolated from white neighborhoods. Much of pre-1980s “hip-hop,” often encompassed party themes, but social and political issues were the main propellers of the birth and original direction for hip-hop.
