Jim currently is a shareholder at Beatty & Wozniak, P.C., and works out of their Denver office. Jim specializes in environmental compliance and strategic planning across the energy field. His clients include oil and gas companies, electric utilities, and renewable energy companies. His practice includes significant work before administrative agencies in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico addressing issues such as permitting, compliance, and numerous rulemakings. Jim previously was Regional Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region VIII based in Denver and he served as director of the Department of Natural Resources and the Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment during Governor Bill Ritter’s administration in Colorado. Before that, Jim ran a regional environmental non-governmental organization, worked as an attorney with the Environmental Defense Fund in Colorado and California, and was a legislative assistant and state director for Senator Timothy E. Wirth of Colorado.
Jim is married to Mark Chalfant, and they share a love of the arts, especially contemporary dance and ballet as well as theater and classical music. Jim sees Presenting Denver as an innovative and creative way to introduce dance to Denver audiences.
