Since the spring of 2010, Summation Dance has produced annual seasons at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Baryshnikov Arts Center and Judson Memorial Church, among others. The company has also performed in numerous festivals and venues in NYC and beyond, as well as received commissions and residencies from colleges across the country.
Clements’ works are powerfully kinetic explorations of the human experience. Her work demands physicality as she pushes the limits of the body, while at the same time using small or eccentric gestures to communicate the essence of her idea. The mission of Summation is to find the beauty in struggle and the humor in the mundane.
Clements is currently an artist-in-residence at Colorado Conservatory of Dance where she offers Int/Adv Contemporary Modern classes for Professionals. This class is informed by release-based techniques, and begins with a continuous, standing warm-up that explores mobility and dynamic flow. Exercises are focused on reinforcing alignment to allow for freedom of the limbs. Emphasis is placed on quick shifting of the weight, anatomical points of initiation and sequencing, articulation into and through the floor, and nuanced energetic variation. Class culminates in a vigorous phrase requiring strong, full-bodied involvement.
