International choreographer Robert Sher-Machherndl and partner Jenifer Sher established Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet in 2000 becoming a non-profit in 2003. The company is critically-acclaimed nationally and internationally known for Sher-Machherndl’s signature movement language “a highlight of the program” says The New York Times.
Robert Sher-Machherndl’s work integrates ballet technique with contemporary movement, a powerful vehicle to depict modern life. Its emotional, thought provoking and distinctly progressive. Lemon Sponge Cake collaborates with artists from American Ballet Theater, Lines Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Finnish National Ballet.
Performance highlights – Finnish National Ballet, Vienna State Opera Ballet, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, and American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center. Sher-Machherndl is a four-time winner of New York Ballet Builders, and awarded Dance Person of the Year by the Denver Post.
Lemon Sponge Cake hosts numerous inclusive educational programs, comprehensive after-school, training and out reach-programs. The trainings maybe received in Boulder, Denver and across the world from Alonzo King Lines Ballet BFA & Training Program to Vienna State Opera Ballet Academy, Austria.
