Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop

Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop
January 17, 2016 Presenting Denver

The BJDW is held each summer on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The primary Intensive consists of two weeks of classes, for ages 15 through adult, in jazz dance, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical jazz, modern dance, ballet, turns, improvisation and more. There are performance track classes for dancers who choose to perform and/or choreograph in the workshop’s full theatrical dance production. In addition, there is a Weekend Workshop for ages 12 through adult, offered for 3 days: Friday July 17 – Sunday July 19, with separate classes for teachers on July 18th & 19th. The BJDW started in 1978 with the idea of providing a supportive and growth-oriented environment where dancers could study jazz dance and perform. Years later this idea has remained intact, yet the BJDW has evolved so much that at times we wonder if our name still fits. Our focus is wider than the early years, with an emphasis on contemporary jazz – yet some of our teachers draw from classical jazz and others may whip out some 80s & 90’s-inspired combinations. Rather than strictly defining jazz dance, the BJDW provides students diverse classes with unique dance artists who teach in their own styles.
