Master Class with Kristen Demaree

What does it mean to be proficient? Ballet is known to have a short life of proficiency because, often, once a dancer starts to feel proficient, they also start to age. There is a tipping point in a dancer’s life that is not only about achievement, but about limitations. In this class, we will be focusing on a mindset of proficiency in light of one’s limitations and strengths and how to make one’s own dancing unique, sustainable, and revolutionary. The advanced dancer, the proficient dancer, has much power in how she chooses to use her craft. In this master class, we will be openly questioning this idea of proficiency and how to make informed intelligent choices to match technique with artistry.

Framework, as a movement technique, is a viscerally charged ongoing practice, resembling a ritual that employs recovery through activity. Specific design, time, and effort modules are built resulting in choreographic phrases and expressions.
