Jo Marie Hazelton is a native Oklahoman who has always had a passion for dance and for arts education. She is a certified K- 12 teacher with over twelve years of experience teaching dance in public and private institutions, camps and community programs. Growing up in a community center dance program, her enthusiasm and commitment to arts in and out of the classroom was fostered early. Jo is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Dance Education. While attending UCO, Jo was trained in ballet, modern, and jazz and was a member of the Kaleidoscope Dance Company with whom she toured twice to the American College Dance Festival. She spent two seasons working at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp as Assistant Director of the Intermediate Girls Division, which furthered her passion for arts integration and alternative education. Jo is currently the Education Programs Manager for Colorado Ballet and is grateful for the opportunity to engage with knowledgeable faculty, diverse populations, and Denver’s incredible youth. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering with non-profits such as Presenting Denver, Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus and Youth on Record. Her favorite activities include attempted mountain climbing, jogging for about a mile and “podcast and chill”. She is also a member of “Shenanigans Anonymous” and “There’s a Book for that”.
